ISSUES I CARE ABOUT
Daniel's Platform
Republicans own the show right now with having control of the House, Senate, and White House. With all three in control they could pass bill after bill that does what they claim they are there in DC fighting for, yet they would rather go on TV or social media and scream about how it’s the previous admin's fault when they have control to fix all those things. This is why we know they are like clowns at a circus that would rather conduct a performance at the costs of American citizens than put in real work.
Healthcare
The ACA is an aging system that has done its job at getting the first step toward a public system started, but Congress has failed to improve and phase out the older system for the goal of a public system. We are at the tipping point where we can no longer hold onto the ACA. At the very least our Congress should implement care for children as they are the most vulnerable and truly our future, but those in office like Latta would rather talk about healthcare like it’s a game than actually take action.
The health of a person should not be a political game and our families have for too long been buried by the burden of healthcare in our country while insurance companies deny crucial care to those in need, raise premiums on already expensive plans, and leave families paying for more care while covering only little of their visits. There are vastly more benefits to our country having a free public option than negatives to it. I stand by the statement that healthcare for all should be a right for all our citizens and I will fight in DC for that.
Energy
Investing in future, greener technologies is not a scam as our current President likes to claim. On the contrary, every other advanced and even not so advanced country is investing in renewable energy platforms at an accelerated rate except the U.S. Yes, we must still maintain current fossil fuel systems but as we have seen with the abundance of data centers, those systems can’t keep up with the demand that is needed and an influx of other energy production is necessary to increase supply and diversify.
Costs for people are rising and there seems to be no end in sight for utilities to stop raising costs. Bob Latta is the chair of the energy subcommittee, and under his watch, we have seen multiple price hikes here in district 5 on natural gas and electric utilities. This is a failure to his job and a failure at representing us efficiently.
As Congressman I will fight to boost solar energy production that doesn’t take up crucial farm land and utilizes wasted space on federal and commercial properties to boost supply, lower strain on our grid, lower cost for commercial tenants, and lower costs for residential consumers.
Agriculture
Farmers need more support from the government and the current U.S. administration is not making stable market decisions that give farmers a better chance to be profitable and compete internationally. Commodity prices for corn and soybeans have never really recovered from the first Trump administration trade fiascos. Previous large importers of U.S. grains, such as China, are outsourcing to other major players like Brazil and Argentina.
Multiple economists, financial experts, and history have all shown that tariffs on our goods do not benefit the country as a whole and lead to trade wars that hurt Americans. We are watching this unfold right before our eyes in real time which has led to the Trump Administration being forced to pay out more subsidies due to their own misguided policies instead of allowing natural market forces to maintain stable demand for our goods. Farmers don’t want a bailout, they want a long term plan that doesn’t bankrupt their farms and ruin generations worth of work.
Truly, farming is not just a business, it's a way of life and we must protect and nurture that lifestyle so that we can all benefit from having a cost positive and abundant food supply.
Quality of Life
People can be heard everyday just mentioning simple things that would make our lives better or are easy fixes to help make the day to day life better. Here are some simple fixes that Congress could actually do immediately to make lives better and these are some that I would fight to do immediately.
-
Car headlight regulations for night time driving
-
Daylight Savings Time being set permanent
-
Banning prescription drug commercials and ads
-
Banning robo/automated calls
-
Banning physical junk mail that creates extra work for USPS
-
Set election day as a national holiday
-
Ban high interest loan rates that are 10-15% more than the prime rate
-
Clean bills - no more multi issue thousand page bills
-
Raise the income cap on Social Security to 300k
Lowering Costs for Families
Currently the families of our country are being stretched so thin, looked at as profit margins, and treated like wasted effort when they can’t produce enough for companies. Tariffs must be reset to 2024 levels as they don’t just affect our farmers. The tariffs are driving unnecessary costs to each person and for no fault of their own. Families are forced to go without a lot, limit more and more, work harder for longer to get by, and watch as their savings are getting smaller and smaller because of the irrational, emotional, and egotistical attitude of a president that has no connection to what we go through every day.
Families are also being treated like they are a burden on society. I don’t see that nor believe that and will fight to repeal the spending cuts issued to Medicaid and SNAP in Trump’s bill. Those programs are there to help when people need it, and are investments by our government on its people to have a better future. In DC I will champion for hard working families that are working everyday to get by.
Government Accountability
Congress has been criminally corrupt for too long on both sides of the aisle and it’s time for accountability and true leadership to take place where the representatives of our country lead by example and follow the same rules as the everyday person. Many members and their staff use their insider knowledge to cheat the market and manipulate stock prices to their benefit. We can not allow them to gain riches off of information that is not available to the general public, and cannot allow individual companies to bribe or influence voting based on stock incentives or financial information on their stock. I will fight in DC for an immediate stock ban and reform, while leading by example myself with my own personal portfolio.
Small Businesses
COVID hit businesses hard and now without time to recover from one disaster they have now been tossed into another one with tariffs. Small business is considered the backbone of our country, yet our government seems to think they should carry the burden of unforeseen circumstances and self-inflicted pain from the president's own personal tariff decisions.
In Congress I will fight to remove the tariffs for small businesses, as well as look at COVID era policies to make sure those that made it through that time will continue to be able to operate, and look for those that abused the taxpayers money for their own personal gain
Immigration
The issue of immigration affects all major economies around the world, especially today with the many political and social disruptions around such as crime, famine, poverty and war. Mass movements of peoples in the last twenty years mainly due to harsh conditions in their home countries have caused large disruptions in the social fabric of the host countries receiving the influx of refugees
The U.S. has had a broken immigration system for decades and has not been able to handle the large inflows occurring every year. Other advanced countries experienced the same increases but have better systems that process the newly arrived in faster time frames, and get them to be better contributors to their economies. This will help prevent illegal immigration and help bolster legal immigrants that are here to make our country better.
Immigration into the U.S. must be fully addressed by Congress and no longer just be handled by administrations that change philosophies like the change in wind directions. A permanent, fair and simple process can be established and I plan on working to build a better system.
